Timeout whiners
Please publicly denounce my evilness here if you wish.
But please refrain from sending me offensive messages.
Thank you.
But either way, you're right...sending offensive PM's is never called for.
I have had cause recently to believe that there are certain players on this site who create games with the specific intention to catch people with time-outs. I know that may seem crazy, and I can't give an example without painting someone up in a negative light, but was wondering if any other players have had a similar experience?
I agree with timing someone out if their vacation flag is not on. I won't wait indefinitely for an opponent to move. Unfortunately I have been timed out of a few games while my flag was on, in one example I was away for a day, and was timed out in a game that I was enjoying. Is one day too long to wait for someone? That really angered me, but I don't message people.
Please don't time someone out because you are losing. That's just bad sportsmanship. In that regard I would commend Cheech46 for not timing me out in one of our games where he was a few moves away from being checkmated.
Originally posted by hopscotchHow can that be done? If you receive a challenge and you know you're going on vacation, you can always delete the game within the first 2 moves (or is it half-moves? I forget). The only other case is a clan challenge - where you can let your clan-leader know you're going away.

I have played many games where an opponent will go from daily to weekly moves and finally move into timeout territory. Almost without exception I am wiping the floor with them and I would expect them to do the decent thing and resign so I don't have to time them out. I think my opinion would be valid here!
I move alot and very steadily, i make 1000s of moves a day sometimes, lol i know one time i made over 4000 moves in a day, think about that number lol! And i do timeout, and here is why, i move often enough and so you know a simple message will stop me from doing so, and if i slow play down against an opponent its because i am focusing on certain players who are online, that way i can finish my games with them win or lose. And come on, i hate when people whin about being timedout, i have been timed out atleast 1300 times, and i know thats my own undoing, but i dont whin about it, i work hard to get my rating back up there and i work on my game so that i can prove myself. And ive even told players that the reason why i focuz on their game wiht me is because they have timed me out of positions that i was winning and that i probably wont show any merci, but i still respect them and i wish them good luck! And Gumbie, your an amazing teammate and player here on RHP! You neverback down from any rating or challenge just like myself, and if someone gets mad because yu timed them out and sends you nonsense remarks, just laugh because you WON! and thats all that matters, if it was a game on board, you cant ask for a time extension in the middle of a tourney because you want to go for lunch!
P.S. Good luck in our two games, and hope all your clan games are coming long well!
Regards,
Dustin Rogers
I'd like to say something in regards to timeouts. I may even be considered a "timeout whiner", but hear me out first. I usually play 1 to 3 day timeout rule, as I make numerous moves on a daily basis. 99.9% of the time I make moves everyday. What gets me is when I'm playing someone in a really good game and, for whatever reason, I don't happen to make a move one day, that 0.1% of the time that I don't move, I get timed-out! Now, I'm not bitching about whether my opponent has the right to time me out; he does! What I'm tweaked about about is the lack of common courtesy in considering that "something" has prevented me from moving that day, i.e. unexpected duty at my CG unit, perhaps?. I extend this courtesy to all of my opponents because it is "common courtesy", especially if your opponent habitually moves on a daily basis. Now, I wouldn't extend this courtesy to a chronic no-mover, but only to someone that moves regularly (daily). I know about the rule! I know that my opponents's profile threatens time-out if I don't move, but sometimes a "little" courtesy and consideration in giving your opponent the benefit of the doubt and extending the deadline by ONE day can go a long way diplomatically, especially if it is a good game to begin with...just my take on things...
Of course, your opinion in itself is not wrong, we just dont like when players whin and complain, i understand that maybe your gone for that one day, but comeon, then i can say that anyone that extends there timebank should be timedout in my opinion, because thats even longer, and you know your timebanks, plus, then players with 3 day games, well come on, you know when your three days is up, just come back and make a move, with one day timeouts the discussion is more difficult, but if you have any doubt that maybe in the future, you might not be able to make the timeout, well, then extend it to three/0 instead of whinning and lets get on with our chess and enjoy ourselves!
