-Removed-Yeah, had the same tooth removed with 1 cm right angle hook on the root and it was sore. The worst case scenario is that they can even discover the root is fused to the root of the adjacent tooth. People have been known to be whizzed of to hospital half way through although that is very rare. The worst thing is if you know all that and you see the look on the dentist's face as they realise that they are going to have a hard time.
I am sure there is variation between dentists, but there is also great variation between teeth so if they got that out without you needing a stitch in your gum you probably have a good one.
-Removed-That's quite a long time now for significant pain. Is it hurting all the time regardless of pressure on it? Bone pain can be sore like that if the hooked root did some damage on the way out, but the other possibility would be infection which might want looking at. (Disclaimer, disclaimer, sometimes my cat types on the computer when I'm out of the room...)
-Removed-Once you get into sawing the tooth up and removing it in pieces due to the hooked roots they do have to do a fair bit of damage so I am sure you are right. Does also create the possibility of leaving a little bit behind that gets infected though. I should add I have no qualifications in dentistry as I am basically just a small black cat who snatches moments on this keyboard when nobody is around. Finally technology that doesn't need opposable thumbs, but that's a whole other thread...
