OK, I'll agree with that.

I refuse to purchase any "Best Of" albums out of sheer snobbishness.

If I see Steve Miller's Greatest Hits or Legend in anyone's collection, I will immediately disown that person as a friend.

Glad to hear you people admitting snobbishness. It should get you votes for the most anally-fixated player 🙂

How about groups like the Kinks? The compilations are better than individual LPs.

You mean Legend as in the best of Bob Marley? damn, i have that somewhere. i think best-ofs are ok for those artists you think have some ok songs, but you're not enough into them to get all the albums they appear on.

Yeah, that list blows.
Edit: ooooooooh we're talking about albums, not influential bands
Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" is way up there
as is Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"
Pink Floyd "The Wall"
The Beatles "1"
ACDC "Back in Black"
Led Zeppelin IV
just about anything of Elvis has to go down as hugely influential.
Black Sabbath (whatever their first album was)
CCR (anything of theirs would have held major influence on songwriting in america for the entire decade after their release)
