WELL, THIS IS FUN, ISN'T IT.
I don't know what the heck is wrong with people around here sometimes. Every now and then we basically have a bout of what's best described as 'rec envy'.
People use recs in different ways. I use them when someone makes a good point AND when someone makes me laugh - if you actually get me to make a noise instead of just smile, there's often a rec in it for you.
And I do also rec insults - if they're sufficiently creative and witty, and directed at someone who has been driving other participants in a thread to distraction.
And now I'm supposed to hoard my precious 10 recs a month, for what? For deep, meaningful, philosophical treatises?
This is a CHESS site. Who in their right minds would come here for the PRIMARY purpose of deep and meaningful discussion? Okay, I know Bowmann used to have more recs than moves, but apart from that, can anyone here seriously say that their reason for being a member of RHP is the forums?
I really don't see how abuse of a system that has no consequences whatsoever is abuse worth worrying about.
But let's assume for the sake of argument that there WAS a problem, and that people were spraying out recs willy-nilly for bad reasons. Rationing to one rec every 3 days is massive overkill. If we're going to have a limit, it should be something high enough that I don't have to go around consciously withholding my approval or adding completely USELESS 'I agree' or 'mentally I'm reccing you' posts. The current limit is only going to add to the filler.
If we must have this system (and I seemed to have completely missed whatever 'debate' there was about the need for change), then can we at least increase the monthly limit by fivefold.
Originally posted by orfeoThe fun thing is that people are still handing them now at a much higher rate which will create some sort of rec-tides.

I predict there'll be a rec-famine by next Wednesday. What happens if I get a peak of inspiration on the first weekend of October? Will my passion and intellect go unrewarded?
If a great post is read but nobody recs it, how does the writer know it's a great post? How can one improve the quality of one's discourse if one is never given feedback beyond one being insulted by a rampant militant atheist with the social skills of a slime mould?
