What about recs being non cumulative? That is, being reset to 0 every, say, 30 days? It'd stop the stupid race to get them. And the rec system should mantain its functionality.
Of course, I'm referring only to the individual record of rec's.
So, any post in the last 7 (or maybe more) will retain the correct number of recs it deserved in that period.
Only a non-elaborated idea.

EDIT
Sorry, but I feel very strongly about this. If people don't post a lot in the forums, or if they're incapable of saying something funny, helpful or interesting, they don't deserve recs. I don't think we should take away bowmann's recs (yes, he's funny) at the beginning of every month to make these other people feel better.

I agree with you that only useful posts (whatever this means) are to be recommended.
It was the main purpose of the system to alleviate users from searching thru the forums for the "best" posts on the last seven days (or so).
Let us make an effort to bring it a new life.
I agree with you that many one-liners posters as Bowmann are really funny (or way too acid 🙂 ). But we'd leave the ppl to decide if he (or anyone else) deserves a rec in their opinion.
That's the very (intended) nature of the system.
Cheers

Originally posted by CrazyLilTingYes, they can be useful to point people who don't have the time to read everything to interesting posts. But you don't need the personal total wreck number for that. I don't think setting it back to 0 every week would help in any way, it will just produce competitions in how many wrecks you can get in a week. I find that number completely useless.
Nr of recs guide the search thru the last "relevant" posts in the forums.
Or you pretend to be a newbie here?
