the sports people face the same problem as the online chess community ...
engines and drugs ....
there are the same problems ...
i am sure we will find the same solutions in the short term (banning those caught with any solid evidence) ...
and: the same long term solutions (separating users from non-users), and allowing users an arena in which to perform.
i believe - when a user is caught in the nonusers group they will be banned from both groups for some time - then forced into the users group.
what do you think?

Huh?
i will try again:
in chess: people use skill and training and hard work.
in sport: people use skill and training and hard work.
in chess: people use computer assistance and dominate.
in sport: people use chemical assistance and dominate.
the two types of players in each of chess and sport need to be separated to give two interesting competitions.

There are alot of people out there who like to tweak them, (like myself and see how they do in an engine arena.
The prudes will say what is the point of course, but I think it would be fun to maybe have an engine against engine tournament held here. Personally I would gladly pay another fee.

Playing them is fun and all, but watching someone else play them and getting excited about it is another. I try not to make fun of sport watching nerds and there tendencies to live vicariously through others and complain about the job they are doing.
I agree with him. Who would find that interesting?
I digress...
Personally to me it would be fun to do, of course it would go without saying that it would not be for everyone.

I think it would be very interesting to have an RHP satellite designed for computer-aided chess. I would certainly pay an additional sub to enter my pet monsters into a mechanical arena. Like Robot Wars, it could be a huge amount of fun.
It would be interesting to see who and what climbs to the top of the pile, and why.
I see no problem in computer aided chess in itself. the problem arises when the other player doesn't know his opponent is using an engine. on FICS you have engines playing in the same pool with humans, and it all works out fine. they're always identified with a C appended to their handle. I don't see why that wouldn't work with computer aided players as well. they could have a CA as an id tag similarly, so nobody would get cheated. it just should all be done openly.
there could even be a separate 'chimaera' section for computer aided chess, where people could test their CA-play against others. the best CA-players would evidently be the best positional players in that pool, as tactics would not likely decide the game.
and as most of us do play against fritz etc. from time to time, I'm sure a CA-player would be a bit similar, but more interesting opponent.
I think that actually would be interesting.
and people getting caught using engines in human-section could simply get tagged with CA in their handle, and all would work out very smoothly I think. engine-users could continue playing, not lose subsciption, and there would probably be less disruption overall I think.
maybe there could even be a setting in profile, where you could decide what happens if opponent gets tagged with CA during a game. that could be automatic win, or maybe turning that game unrated, or even no action at all.
