So I attempt to transcode a monster wma file into mp3 format only to discover that Microsoft won't let me...on Nero, at any rate. Any recommendations?

There are a multitude of conversion applications that are available on the net. Some commercial, some shareware and some freeware.

Personally, I use Conversion Pro X (I think thats the one). It will convert any audio file into any other audio format. PM me you email addy and I will send you a copy when I get home from work tonight - its freeware 🙂
