Ok, I am under attack, I need a free download, trustworthy,
effective, reliable, efficient, agressive, solid, etc. etc. software
that blocks trojans and worms.
Thanks

Can you explain a bit about that site? On a site like sysinternals.com you can download utilities, port scanners, file monitors and the like but I don't see ads. Your site looks ad driven, suspicious of sites like that, maybe they install a little extra in the desired download like Warez sites?
I also see stuff like "seeds" and "leeches" which I assumed t ...[text shortened]... individuals have been sued for illegal music downloads. Is this the situation at mininova?
Advertisements are not dangerous in the way malware can be. "My" site is a popular Torrent site. It's clean.
Seeds and Leechers are terms relating to the BitTorrent method of file sharing. I use the site often and haven't yet been 'burned'. Nor do I personally know anyone who has. Legal? Do you really care?
ok i have a trojan which has now stopped me even turning my pc on normally. i had macafee and adaware running and they both failed entirely. tried downloading something better, but by the time i was trying, the browser was already acting up, and soon it was all too late. (typing this on mac, which is safe, but i wonder if i'll ever see all my lovely pc data again...)
:'(
Originally posted by Officer DibbleTry firing up your PC in safe mode with networking, and download trojan hunter or a trial version of something like AVG, ad aware SE, spybot, ewido, etc. The main thing to try is safe mode and see if your ad aware or macafee kills it. You know about safe mode, right? while it's booting up you hit f8?
You then get a screen first saying you want the operating system you want to come up, XP or whatever, then it goes into the safe mode screen and you pick the one that says 'safe mode with networking' and let all the bs happen till you see the desktop stuff and then run your anti stuff. They work with less interferance that way.
Originally posted by BowmannWell if you had actually read my post, you will see I mentioned people who had actually gotten sued by Ipod or whoever for downloading files without paying the blood money. Thats what I was referring to about legality. I could care less if someone gets a freebie, but I have been burned by those warez sites, I had been lusting after microsoft word about 8 years ago and found a warez site that had it but ATT I only had dial up and it was agonizingly slow. So word being something over 100 megabytes, it was chopped up into 10 meg slices and one of those slices came with a nice little trojan. Thats what I meant be getting burned. That taught me a good lesson, you can't expect to get something for nothing. Actually I DID get something for nothing. Kind of like dating a prostitute....

Never heard of OpenOffice? There's almost always an alternative.
Often, it's the companies themselves who infect copies of their own software in order to discourage file sharing. That's why we have programs to deal with this.
