I am using Sygate's firewall. I think that Kerio's firewall is better but I could not get it to stop blocking the internet. I also use Ad Aware SE Personal, AVG online virus scan, Spyware Blaster, Sptbot Search and Destroy. I also use Norton Spyware Scan for Yahoo's tool bar.

Then you should stop. Symantec bought Sygate a while back, and killed it off. You'll get no updates at all.

You know about safe mode, right? while it's booting ...[text shortened]... e the desktop stuff and then run your anti stuff. They work with less interferance that way.
safe mode doesn't work any more. it says windows isn't fully installed. which it certainly was, for years, until i let that big wooden horse in.

Sounds like maybe system files have been deleted by the little bugger. Have you tried using recovery console?
Stupid question, I'm sure you have.


Any way you can run SFC from DOS? Not sure if any DOS versions support this utility or if it can only be run from command prompt within Windows.

recovery console yes i tried that too. comes up all swirly and drug-addled.

and it's not letting me into dos any more.

really it's not letting me do anything and i am thinking of using one of the long metal arms that would slot into the base of the orbitrek cross-trainer i once bought when drunk in los angeles and watching an informercial if only i ever used said cross-trainer to smash the livlng crap out of the pc.

please add punctuation at will.

I use Kerio's firewall and haven't had any problems with it. Did you tell it to block your browser?
