That's right. He only listened to Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan before that.

What a bloody farce, where do I start? Perhaps I should point out who got in last year first:

FIVE CHOSEN BY THE PANEL:
Elvis Presley An American was the first person ever inducted... quelle surpise...
The Beatles
Bob Marley
Madonna A founder member? WTF?
U2You are joking? A founder member? Christ!

FIVE CHOSEN BY THE PUBLIC:
Cliff Richard and The ShadowsNo really, stop it, you're killing me
The Rolling StonesOkay, but what about The Who or Floyd?
Queen Don't get me wrong, I like Queen, or at least before Mercury died, but they should surely be further down the list no?
Michael Jackson Ahahahahaha
Robbie Williams Who voted for this cr@p? Do the public have any taste at all?

Okay, so we've already established that both the panel and the public have thought about this for all of five seconds. But, it's the first year, perhaps they'll improve, afterall it's not an easy decision to make.

So, this year's inductions:

Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Eurythmics, Joy Division/New Order, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath.

Okay, Bob Dylan I don't have a problem with, not my sort of music really, but he earned his place, despite the fact that I think he's a parody of himself nowadays. If he'd been shot in the 80s I think it would have been a lot better for everyone.

The fact that Jimi Hendrix was inducted this year instead of last is a joke. This is possibly the most influential, groundbreakingly innovative guitarist the world has ever seen and you pass him up for Maddona, U2 and some fat burger-stand of a man. Sigh... Slash's guitar tribute to him was ruined by the demented timeless rhythm of some escaped lunatic they let out to play the drums. Who? None other than Mitch Mitchell, Hendrix's original drummer. Dear oh dear oh dear, more evidence that all legendary groups should be killed upon reaching 50, thereby ensuring they don't become sad empty shadows.

Regarding last years selections (not sure about this), as I recall they were selected as being one from each of five decades (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s). So trying to say someone such as Madanna, U2 or Robbie Williams kept Jimi Hendrix out is off the mark. The Beatles or the Rolling Stones on the other hand....

And like them or not the original ten (with the probable exception of Robbie Williams have been big things in music over here. Cliff Richard probably has more devoptees over here than almost all of the other names you've mentioned.

Given what this hall of fame is set out to be, I'd say nine out of the first ten are pretty much the most 'deserving' candidates. I would rather listen to Leonard Cohen than most of them too, but for this hall of fame, it's pretty hard to see who could beat them.

Hmm, is Sarah McLachlan the bird they play in every single bar you go into in Canada?

Cough*Celine Dion and Michael Buble*cough.

Grrrrr! No one wants to debate me. 😠

Fine, I can handle that...

Can anyone at least tell me why NME sucks so damn bad? Do you guys have any good music mags you can recommend to me?
Smash Hits 😛

Melody Maker was the only weekly rival to NME when I were a lad.

Select, Q, and another I can't remember its name were Monthly Mags about Music.

That was the point of my comment; hence the capitalised 'M'.

EDIT Sorry to sound harsh, you actually get mad Hrothgar-grade props for noticing that 😀!

I thought it was deliberate... I guess the others posting here are too cool to point it out 😉

5 UK artists who should be included in a UK music hall of fame:

Elton John
Phil Collins
Eric Clapton
Rod Stewart
Barry Mannilow

5 Others who should be recognised in some way outside of a hall of fame:

Nick Drake
Bill Drummond
Bobby Gillespie
Van Morrison (he should be in the first list but would be grumpy about it I'm sure)
Kirsty MacColl
reserve - Billy Bragg (incase Van the Man gets the boot)

(note - the above not necessarily chosen on my personal preference for their music)
