It took me a while to get into this book. "The story is set in Eskibahçe, a small fictional village in southwestern coastal Anatolia during the 1900s, spanning World War I and the era of Turkish nationalism. The Battle of Gallipoli takes place halfway through the novel..." There are many characters with difficult names to remem ...[text shortened]... r known for his novel "Captain Corelli's Mandolin".
I still have 200 pages wonderful reading to do.
I still have 100 pages to read and I have to make a stop now and then just to cry for a while - I'm crying for what war does to people and cultures and friends and lovers. And that's what I do right now, just taking a break to cry.
It's a lovely book.
