you leave your car lights on all day at work?

A new battery 😞

I'd take it to the *how stupid can you get?* forum but I figured I'd just post it here as a reminder instead. 😕

Why wouldn't your battery recharge? I left my lights on all day about 4 times over the spring and summer before I started to park in front of the window.

Each time I needed a jump, but the battery was fine.

I think your battery was on the outs... or consider finding out if your battery is charging before this one runs out.

What is the big deal with peoples car batteries and headlights. The batteries last for years and years - why should leaving the lights on cause them any trouble?

It had a bad cell. It jumped, and we let the car run for a while, but when he turned it off -- that was that. Dead again. It was three years old. That doesn't seem like much.

Lead acid batteries should never be totally discharged. I'm suprised you haven't needed a new battery yet. Typically after leaving your lights on and running one flat , it can be recharged, but it's service life has been drastically reduced.

try fixing the warning switch that goes off when you open the door with lights on and engine off.

You must have an old car! Most car batteries nowadays can cope with full beam being left on for 48hrs and still start the car!

And now you are in my land.....so don't argue! Oh...... please do! 😏

And no, you're not supposed to run the house off it too! Ohms my God!

That sounds very convenient. I think most people have to buy a new battery when they do that.

wait....a......minute......

Car batteries typically have a 40-50 amp hour rating, headlights pull anywhere from 5 to 10 amps, so 48 hours is a bit optimistic, I think. 4 or 5 hours is more likely.

you could have made the optimistic calculation: 50/5=10 xD
