I agree, I think the whole space travel thing is a waste of resources. Lets work on finding a better way to improve this planet first.
Yes, electricity, telephone, vaccines among many other inventions contribute to making this world a better place to be - going to the moon doesn't.

A lot of the world's chronic problems could be solved if we could develop a political system that addresses the fact that the top 10% of people are hoarding 85% of the world's wealth and resources, while the bottom 90% control the remaining 15%, and the top 30% of people hold 97% of the total wealth. The current political classes absolutely everywhere have been bought off to some degree or other and are busy defending the status quo, throwing up smokescreens and organizing bread and circuses. Solving THIS problem would be a not-too-shabby achievement for humanity.

This planet can be improved by everyone getting up early every day, going to work or study, or do something productive, every single day, instead of waiting around for handouts. Start there and this planet will be improved. There are far too many able-bodied people who sit around and concern themselves with who has more, who are rich, who are celebrities, who is doing whatever with their money or resources, instead of actually contributing to this world in a more meaningful way.

The greatest resource in the world is not wealth and material resources, it is people. If a country has lazy, stupid, untrained, uneducated, unskilled people, no amount of money or other assistance will help them improve.

For example, if it were possible to take two countries, one rich and one poor, with say 30 Million people each, and just switch the people [people alone, nothing else], you would find that in about 20 yrs life in the country that was previously poor will gradually become good, while life in the country that was previously rich will become a lot worse.

People solve problems, not money or wealth.

Advances in technology is like a wildcard. Sometimes they go in beneficial directions and sometimes they dont. Its not easy to control these things. Most inventions can be used for good and for evil. There are many beneficial technologies which were the direct result of space travel which people take for granted, and ridicule the idea of going to the moon as a waste of time. Google it.

If the Jarkata political elite were not working for the domestic and international corporations and could therefore address the issue of that tiny minority's hoarding of wealth and economic bullying, then the rest of this country's population, the vast majority, could have food security, better access to water, better schools, better hospitals and clinics, lower infant mortality etc. etc.

I'm sure this is true about many people in many countries. And I think investing in training, education, and teaching skills can go a long way towards making people resilient and productive.

Sounds like we are saying the same thing. The people [Jarkata political elite], do not care the solve the country's problems.

This .. investing in training, education, and teaching skills can go a long way towards making people resilient and productive is the key to solving the worlds poverty problem. Add in a strong focus on education of young girls and you can reduce the population problem.

Getting freebies from rich countries, telling Elon Musk what to do with his billions, getting jealous of the rich ... does not cut it. Self-pity is a waste of time. People need to get of their butts and get to work and fix their own situation.
