What do you think are the primary factors that drive people to hatred (and why)?
Whilst we have the cognitive facaulties/soul (depending on your belief system) to overcome biological instinct, so often as a species we default to our evolutionary past.
We are programmed to mistrust all but those in our immediate inner circle; all that is different from us, as a basic survival strategy.
And in many a mistrust leads from an instinctive prejudice, to an active discrimination. Both are forms of hate - one thought, one acted upon.
Whilst education, upbringing, society and free will can lead many to overcome instinct, many take the path of least resistance.
After all it is easier to hate the unknown that seek to understand it, and either learn to like or tolerate it. So I believe that hatred is a function of ignorance - pure and simple. Because we can all learn not to hate if we understand.
But despite having had a ringside seat at more pain and hatred than I would wish on anyone, I still hold onto the fact that as a species, as a society, people so often prove that love, altruism and moral justice can prevail. And so often they do, against all the odds.

Maybe that's too simplistic...
I wonder about what is truly hatred...maybe what we think is hate is something else...
dislike
aversion
attachment to unskillful ideas...
I wonder if hatred could be redefined...looked at...deconstructed...if the source and motivation would dissolve and thereby the result...
just rambling thoughts...

It is too complicated for our intuition and too profound for our instincts. Why we hate is the culmination of all of these things listed here. No more, no less. We fear things we do not hate. We lack understanding about things we do not hate. We are inferior to things we do not hate. We are even ignorant about things we do not hate. We hate things that we fear, misunderstand, feel inferior to AND are ignorant of.
