As far as I was concerned there is some sort of racism ingraned in some families from Texas... I think the majority of people have their heads in the right place, but there is a fringe population of racists around the southern US, but not restricted to that area.
Even here in Canada, there is a group based in Calgary that promotes "white power" and they are obviously neo-nazis. They have marches, and people do anti-marches against them and there are usually more people against them... the most f'd up thing is the police seemingly protect this group.
It is a cult phenomena, a personality cult. It is entirely psychological, and many of the followers are brought up around people who were racists and therefore are predisposed themselves.
In order to stop this, you have to promore tolerance and understanding of different cultures within our communities while condemning racism and racists.
Originally posted by ChessJesterI moved from the Central Valley California where the population of black people was in the less than .01 percent range. Then I moved to North Texas over a year ago where the black population is about 10 percent. Since I have been here and not use to being around black people, every stereotype that Ive heard has come true and almost unbearable to live here anymore. So to say that Texans are racist is ignorant.. you have to walk in their shoes.. I personally think Texans are more than tolerable.
