In this thread you pick an historical event and tell us where you were when it happened and something you remember from the experience.

When the twin towers were brought down on 9/11 I remember coming home for lunch from school and seeing the second plane crashing in thinking they were showing a reply of the first.

You know the interesting thing about that story is the Pilots were trained in the U.S.A.!

Just the start of many things to come, we just didn't know that at the time.

I was watching Regis morning show when they stopped the show to show it on the show.

I was in elementary school when the principal announced over the loudspeaker system that JFK had been assassinated.

Tiananmen square was an eye opener for me and in the news currently a lot, first time i realised how screwed up the world is and how much i shouldn't complain about being in UK, we don't have to stand up to tanks, just Police with batons

I was at work and followed the news on my computer when the second plane crashed into the North Tower. Some years ago I visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum with my friends and it was very emotional.

Only the well travelled will appreciate what they have in advanced western countries.

I was on a plane flying to Hong Kong for my company at the time.
It came up on the big screen and I thought things could get interesting .
As it turned out I saw nothing unusual in HK.

Amen to that. I have seen the Berlin Wall from both sides, both before and after it fell.

I visited friends in Corsica in 2003 when our Minister for Foreign Affairs Anna Lindh was murdered during a shopping round at NK mall in Stockholm. We hadn't followed the news for a few days but needed a few things in the local grocery. As soon as we came in, the little lady behind the counter showed us a French newspaper, pointing to the news article, and she was very upset.
