In Red Nights defence, I dont think he ruined or made the forums boring at all, he just injected his own personality onto the site. I think it was a question of many of the regular posters (before RN came along) didnt know how to take him, expecially his "Love thy neighbour" line.

Its like that with many of the noobies that show their face and enter into ...[text shortened]... d of having the p1ss taken out of them.

Thanks for listening (ps Mod, this is NOT an rant.)
Thanks macken.

one on one you are a great guy but as soon as you know that there are a few "carp" around you take a total change in direction as if you have some ...[text shortened]... ght to my attention before in the past, so am just posting the thoughts of others and of mine.
Great post!

Now this is really just stupid. If you don't want move reminders, then just turn them off in your settings!

What a first post! Calling somebody's idea stupid when you don't even know what you are talking about. LOL.

What in the hell are you spouting off about? Thanks for the abuse, ass!
(And yes, jerk... I understand now that your post was about those are your favorite keys on your (piano) keyboard... damn, I'm not that thick... and for your information my reply to you was making fun of the fact that the thread got hijacked so far off-topic... so if you are trying to point out who misunderstood, then point at yourself! )

Now, I'm not saying that I disagree with your points in the above quoted posts, but if you sometimes feel justified in belittling and attacking and name calling, then I don't think you're exactly the right person to be teaching us the moral highground on forum behaviour. Hypocritical, misplaced sanctimony if ever I saw it. No wonder RN likes it. He doesn't like personal attacks so he recs and awards RNSOAs to personal attacks. 🙄

1) First of all, yes, I was a newbie then. *And* I apologized. How much apologizing do you ever see on these forums? But guess what? You can turn off emailed move reminders *and* move notifications.

2) Not all personal attacks are unjustified. Just the unprovoked ones out of the blue. I was responding in kind to one on me. Being a veteran of many site forums, but new to RHP, I knew that if I took this one lying down that many more would come. That still hasn't stopped the troglodytes from reaching way back into ancient history to make their lame-brained points. Even you have to admit that if these two posts are the best examples you could find of me trying to flame someone, then your argument is weak at best. Compared to the vitriol some people here spout, these two examples are mild.

There are a few interesting points made in this thread, I too find the forums less interesting than they were when I first joined the site.
The quality of the threads has gone down and because of this people are putting even less effort into their posts. There are the usual suspects creating mind-numbingly dull threads, we all probably have one poster who you personally wish would never post again.
I think we all need to start to put a little more effort into our posts.
In the past incredibly dull posts were ridiculed and laughed at, posters were flamed and it possibly wasn't a very nice experience for the poster. It did however incentivise posters to make their posts interesting, witty and on-topic. I like it that we don't have the flame wars of old but I think we have gone too far, without constructive criticism how will someone who posts incessent drivel know if they are never told. Who should do the telling? I dunno.

Thread 32368 Note the date of Russ' post and the date of your post.

Not all personal attacks are unjustified.
You have your own set of rules whereby you feel justified to belittle people and call them names. Others have their own set of rules. It seems that you are the person intolerant of people different to yourself.

All besides the point anyway. You try to assume a moral highground, while exhibiting the exact same behaviour as the one you vilify. You remind me of Ted Haggard, with your hypocrisy. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Why do you feel you are without sin, when you have clearly name called and belittled both going into the past, and in the present?

I just thought it was funny, is all. I especially like the way you continue name calling AFTER your hypocrisy has been unveiled to you. Well done.

This is how I call it.

A new user arrives, and they are introduced to a plethora of new opinions from different geographical and sociologic regions. This is great. You (the new user) enjoy debating with and interacting with these people with new perspectives.

Then after a while, and after much enjoyed debate/interaction, you realise that somebody starts a thread to debate/discuss the exact same thing which you already debated. You're not really interested in putting the time in again, so you ignore the thread. The longer you stay here, the more this happens, till you're left clicking on a couple of threads, which still interest you for whatever reason.

I don't think the forums really get better or worse, they just experience troughs and peaks. At the moment, I think they are in a trough, due to the fact that any post with any form of wit or cleverness is shot down by humourlous twits who's idea of a good forum is either saying hello to each other once a day. This isn't terminal. It never is.

Russ has stated a couple of times in the past that lifetime on the site is limited, customers come and go continually. That's just the way it is. People come, they love the place, they get addicted, they realise that it's same nasty drown stuff different day, they get bored, they leave. Next!

The forums just need a touch of drama and you'll get a bit of a buzz off them again. Unfortunately, drama is what entertains the majority of us, whether this is when somebody gets banned (like the leader of a high-profile clan), or when a new multi accounted comes in trying to annoy everybody with their flaming, or when something changes about the site.

I've a feeling we won't have long to wait until our next flash of drama. I wonder what type it will be.

....i rarely post anymore...too many people have such a narrow idea of
humor...they think everything that is posted is about them or for real...that is why i have often asked for a new smiley ( or several )..like a teal blue for i am only kidding..or a red evil one when you really want to show you really do mean it...and ravello does suck and i really do mean that....
