That is when they went to the right side of the road to protect against an ambush from the side.
This was all in a time when everyone was right handed... and those who were left handed were considered... bad.

That reminds me of my former landlord, who found it amazing how the Swedes had managed to switch to the new system (driving on the right side) - and what surprised him most was that they hadn't done it gradually, but it had been introduced everywhere at the same time. He was a bit at a loss when I asked him how it would have worked to do it gradually.
