Not necessarily so. Maybe it's just the words of someone who has a positive attitude towards things. Yeah sure, when someone you lve dies it hurts, but you can't spend every living day from then on worrying and fretting about, feeling sorry for yourself. People live and people die, number one fact of life. It's how you look at it that counts.
And don't sa ...[text shortened]... real grief because I have, I just don't want to spend the rest of my life being miserable.
A) The post you quoted here was addressed at the OP.
B) The OP said that nothing bad ever happened to him because other people in the world have had much worse happen to them.
C) Suddenly, you have a dig at Phlab for dwelling on misfortunes, when the only issue Phlab had with the original post was that the good Brother said that he never has problems because, when he does, he just thinks of other people getting kidnapped and murdered and that makes him feel better.

Its not rocket science. 🙄

He thinks this thread is about thinking of the good things you have, and he's not going to go back and read the title or first post of this thread now. He's stuck on what he wrote in his first post... and that is what this thread is about now in his mind.

Don't act so shallow. Of course there is a moral. When you are down and have a sense of self pity, take a look around and you will see others in even worse shape. It's a way to not become so self obsessed. But you don't get it so why bother? How in the heck did you ever become so callous and smug?

Man, I get sick of these sarcastic comments that that toss away any attempt by someone to express an awakening or positive outlook.
So does it please you to think of all more unfortunate people all the time, do you think whoopee im better than him. of course not. live and let live, dont look down on others or seek pleasure from their misfortune.

That's not it at all. I saw a man come clean about not feeling sorry for himself and noting the bigger picture, and then you simply shot him down with sarcasm.

I guess that I had had my fill of such negativity and let out some steam. You might just have come along at the wrong time.

Peace

No, not ignoring ... presenting an alternative viewpoint for SOME instances. Overall, you're quite right. I was sick and feeling sorry for myself one day and turned on the television -- and there was coverage of an earthquake that had just occured. Yes, those people had a REAL problem, and I've never forgotten that. I just can't imagine telling a rape ...[text shortened]... incest victim "people have it worse than you do. Be grateful." Just my own point of view.
True, but the original example illustrates a perspective chosen for oneself. It would generally be cruel to impose a "you don't have it so bad" perspective on someone else who has suffered. However it is always a useful mechanism to have a suite of options to alter your own perspective.

The couple sold everything they ownd, house possessions everything, in order to pay the ransom money. The gang took the money and then proceded to set fire to the son and burn him alive anyway.

I ...[text shortened]... ng bad ever happens to me I compare it to what happend to this couple and it seems like nothing.
Just wait till your mum/dad/brother/sister etc dies suddenly and then tell the rest of the family

Never mind though, I remember this couple in a foreign country....

I am sure your words of comfort will be most welcome.

I nominate Brother Edwin as Poster of 2006. I also nominate him for Lifetime Achievement Awards for such threads as "How to be a gay", in which sanctimonious twits got on their high horse for nothing.

Brother Edwin, never leave

ps: 7 edits for that? 😉
