Leave your kids alone, it's only natural. Besides, who knows they went there?
edit, in fact this is actually really bothering me. You're going through a hell of a lot just to find the files. I mean, posting on a forum about this? You don't think you're going a little overboard? Even if you do what does it prove? Find something else to waste your t ...[text shortened]... d visit these "sites" 😀 Maybe your kids saw something, it's gonna happen eventually 😉.
So there it is showing these and a lot of other stuff not related to porn either. Now the thing that bothers me is if its a little piece left somewhere, say in the registry, I didn't think defrags were ALLOWED to start rearanging the registry. It would seem to me to be far too dangerous to a computer to allow such manipulation, one mistake and the comp comes back up totally dead. I would think therefore the registry would be one place a defrag would be strictly forbidden to enter. But there I was, writing down the specific paths and such. But why would a search later deny there were such files when I saw the names to them, at least the path to the names, even if the actual file has dissapeared off the face of the HD, that path was read off somewhere but now seems unfindable. Thats what really bugged me,
not the specifics of some porn. Why can't I find at least the path??
I am thinking maybe some search program exists more powerful than the one in the windows search environment that WOULD show the existance of such a file and if you know of a more powerful search engine of that nature, I would sure like to know about it because it could help in many other instances of apparently lost files. I record music to HD and have seemingly lost my own music files and would like some more powerful than the regular search routine if such a thing exists.
Originally posted by zeeblebotThat sounds interesting. Knoppix is a search program I assume. I don't have linux on the machine but have a copy of redhat somewhere.. I could give that a go. Is Konppix in the regular linux OS discs? Since windows is not up linux could be a very powerful tool for that kind of thing.
boot to Linux with a copy of Knoppix in the CD drive.
then from a terminal window do something like
cd /mnt/hda1 (or hda2 if hda1 is a recovery drive)
find . -name '*.flv' -print
or
find . -type f -print | grep flv
Windows won't be running so it can't hide them from you.

Not exactly. It's a Linux distribution that boots and runs from CD.
Cor! 😞
Found this link, is this the one?
http://www.knoppix.net/
Also found this link, it seems Knoppix can be made bootable from a USB port, its a 1 GB flash stick with the entire Knoppix package and more, its about $55 US. That makes it really portable. I assume with sticks such as this it allows you to boot to Knoppix and when you end the linux session you can go right back to windows on the next reboot.

Originally posted by BowmannI didn't say I was going to buy it but it looks convenient. One thing that ticked me off, the site that offers this product has no phone line and you can only communicate via email. Personally I don't like to do business that way. I just wanted to ask some questions but will probably take a week to get a response. How much is the cd version?
You really do love to spend money, don't you?
Are you saying you can get this product for free? If I could get one for free, I would not care if I had to use the CD.
Originally posted by sonhouseI know that, I meant just use that one spyware program and keep using the other programs I had, Ad-Aware and AVG Free.
We just made a bunch of posts here suggesting using just one won't do the job. Don't abandon Ad aware and just use spybot, use them both, I know for a fact one finds what the other doesn't but which is better seems to vary from week to week so use both!
Also Bowmann, where would I get the spysweeper for free? I downloaded it from Download.com and it was the one that you can scan for free, but need to pay for to remove the spyware.
Speaking of spyware removal programs, I've been using X-Cleaner Deluxe for 2 years now, but it was bought out by Facetime. When it expired in May it said I needed to renew it to get the latest updates for only $9.95 so I did. But it wouldn't upgrade my software to being renewed and I couldn't get the updates.
So I waited for awhile for their records to catch up and I sent them email. They didn't answer so I logged onto their website and posted the problem there. Still no answer... After 2 weeks I threatened to file charges against them for fraud if they didn't take care of the matter.
They simply refused to even acknowledge my email and so I filed a complaint with the credut card company. After 30 days I received my money back while Facetime continues to sell the product!
Anyone else have problems with them?
Originally posted by arrakisI used X cleaner also but stopped using it for no reason other than I had what I considered better spyware removal tools so I never had to deal with facetime. It seemed an ok product. At least is wasn't a rogue spyware package.

I use AVG for antivirus,
spyblaster to protect
and
spybot and adware away to clean up. They seem to do the job quite well
