I discovered during a defrag which was so slow I could write down the file names that someone downloaded something called spazdicke sex kitten.flv and a few more like that. After the defrag finished I tried hunting down the files and got nil results. I tried among other things a search based on *.flv which came up nil. Isn't that a valid search title? I don't understand why I would see that list of file names during defrag and then not be able to find them later. The search engine just gives 'no results to show'. Any ideas how I can track down these files? BTW I went to one of the extension sites to see what flv extension was and it reported it to be macromedia flash video which fits with the title of the porn I spotted. Of course the kids deny deny deny but my main goal is just to get rid of this shite.

Format the drive.

An added bonus is you'll also get rid of Windows.

I would do a complete scan at Trendmicro - some of those sites invite themselves onto your computer if you ain't careful.

I ran Spy Sweeper and Trojan Hunter and only found tracking cookies but I can't find those porn files, ticks me off. I am wondering if they got deleted earlier and only the titles remain? Even so I should be able to do a search and find at least that there IS a title and maybe only a few bytes left. I also use Norton AV which came up with nothing.

I would say the files are gone. You searched the drive for that extension and got nothing. Wierd.

Try a command prompt search. This often finds more than Windows Search.

Eg:

cd\
dir/a *.flv /s

So the gist of your comment is my search criteria was ok, would have found it if it had been there?

That looks like the old DOS commands. Do they sitll work in *shudder* windows? BTW I know how bad MS is and would love to go to a mac but have too much invested in MS now.

I agree, the files are probably gone, but the reference to the file names still exist in the registry! You can d/l a registry cleaner or clean the registry yourself if you know how. I use Registry Mechanic.

Registry Mechanic is one of those you can get at Best Buy or Staples?
I imagine like you said, there must be a lot of junk in the registry by now, when I did spy sweeper it reported on 89,000 entries! I was wondering how that number can be so high. If I do regedit it doesn't look anywhere near that large. What am I missing when I do regedit? Are there entries hidden from regular searches?

I presumed (perhaps wrongly) that he knew the difference. After all, everyone's aware (or should be) that the Windows Registry becomes a mess very quickly.
