Is Brazil the favorite to win.....bet your money. Still many teams surprise such as the asian and african countries.
Who is the best European country in this World cup 2006?
Brazil are deserved favourites. Ronaldinhio (spelling?) and Adriano are fantastic players, and the rest of them ain't so bad either. Whoever wins will have to beat these at some point.
Interestingly if all games go to form then England would face the following teams to reach the final:
GpB Paraguay
GpB T&T
GpB Sweden
L16 Poland (as runners up to Germany)
Qf Portugal
Sf Brazil
F ???????
Chances to redeem poor performances at QF and SF stages in 2004 and 2002 respectively.
Don't rule out Germany as the home nation though.

The Netherlands
Czech Republic
Spain
Italy
Portugal
Germany
England doesn't stand a chance in this World Cup. With Paraguay and Sweden in Group B it will be difficult enough to get to the second round.

The Netherlands - underachievers. Not exactly a harmonious dressing room if the media reports are to be listened to.
Czech Republic - good, but nowhere near as strong as England.
Spain - Pah! Underachievers
Italy - Will bottle it in their group.
Portugal - The stars are getting on a bit. Will not be as strong as they were in 2004.
Germany - Home advantage will help, but again this side is rebuilding and is not as strong as England.
Any other offers?
The bookies think England will have a chance, I'll stick with them and hope the real England turns up (i.e. England that beat Argentina last month, not the England that rolled over against Denmark)
The bookies excist to make money ... out of you! Never trust the bookies as they are always wrong.
I haven't seen England play one decent match since the EC in 2004 and the match against Argentina? It was a friendly match.
As far as you listen to the media about the Dutch team ... I really have no clue what you are talking about. The team is solid, there are no quarrels as there have been before like in 1990, 1996 and 2004.
The Czech Republic is way better then you expect, especially with the return of Nedved and a fit Koller.
Germany ... need I say more ... they ALWAYS perform well at a big tournament.
Italy ... young team, great talent and half a year of preparation.
Spain ... will finally make adecent performance during a major tournament.
Portugal: Great mix between older experienced players and new talent.
I watch English football a lot, and have seen a number of matches of the English team, and it was not impressive at all.
But as they say ... we will see at the tournament. Holidays in Germany this year.

And, as the inventors of the game, it stands to reason England are the best in the world - maybe they don't win all the time but that doesn't matter.
This time we will.
Brazil have little or no chance.

Originally posted by NicolaiSWhat can you say about a side qualifying without playing well? If they can get it together in June and July then they have as good a chance as the bookies reckon. They are in it to make money, but they set the odds based on the favourites to win - they lose money if the favourites win you see...

My first post said 'potentially' - and I stick by that. I still don't see a better side in your list or really any evidence - the closest you got was Czech - but two players don't make a strong side.
The history of trouble in the Dutch dressing room is well reported. Another thing against them in 2006 is they are another young team rebuilding.
