Germany always rise to the occasion? USA 94 and Japan/Korea 2002... Germany were poor (yes i know they reached the final 2002, but they were still poor.
Yes, the other teams are good, but England have the ability there to win the thing.

England don't seem imaginative right now. They really sputtered in their final qualifying matches, and one would have thought that after only managing a single goal against Wales, they'd have sought to prove themselves against Northern Ireland. Their lackluster performance there doesn't speak well for their chances next year.
If I was the manager of one of the favourites, I'd be hoping that England don't get their central midfield running by the World Cup. I mean, lets face it, England have one of the the strongest midfields in the competition on paper, but they never perform, they seem to produce less than the sum of their parts. If Lampard and Gerrard start clicking, most teams wont be able to live with them.

I was supporting Northern Ireland against England, but only because they were both home nations, and I believe a result like that was good for football in general.
(My parents are English, which may explain the tolerance).

brazil should win ....especially thinking about the fact that any competition they're in...they win...they're simply to stong ...and I think they will kick everybodiey,s ass at the 2006 World Cup....They Rock !!!!!!!
I watched the World Cup all through the 80's and the Brazilian team were amazing.
Guess what? They never won.
In such a short game, anyone can win on the night provided the teams are not too different in ability.
On the other hand, I think it's unlikely that teams like Trinidad & Tobago, Switzerland or Japan will win!

if maradona hadn't cheated in 86, unlucky on penalties in 90, turnip tayor in 94, argie play acting in 98, beaten by brazil 02, not to mention euro 96, and urs meirs in 2004.
with a bit of luck we can do it again.
still there are a good 8 teams or so with a realistic chance, and many others with an outside chance. remember denmark euro 92. they originally didn't even qualify or the finals but went n to beat the germans in the final.
in europe i'd have to go with england though. all good things come in threes. rugby world cup, ashes, football?
what odds of beating the aussies in the final?
