What about Lyndon Johnson. At the height of Vietnam almost 300 soldiers were dying every week.
You think Bush had some quirky antics, they were nothing compared to Johnson's.
Can I ask what was the single best and worst thing a presidents government ever did for the common man in america?
Then separately ask the question for global affairs.
Globally Bush Sr could be held accountable for not pushing into Baghdad to take out Saddam after the invasion of Kuwait.. Johnson and Vietnam was a disaster and Clinton's BJ will put icing on any cake but heck we had a govt that tried to push for taxing cow farts!!

Seriously, quoting this study is borderline ridiculous, and only serves to allow others to attack your credibility while ignoring the validity of what you're arguing. The fact is the Iraq war is a tragedy whether 1000 people died or 100,000, so just make sure to have your data correct when you make your point.

His eyes are set on victory; if I can find one complement to give our American President it would be that he is firm in his opinions and values and won't shift for anyone. You may not find that admirable but I sure as heck wouldn't admire a President that said 'oops' after a week, because that would be a TRULY dumb action.
He knew what he was getting into and he is willing to accept casualties on both side to achieve what he thinks is a goal that is worth the losses. He had foresight and the American people did not, so they are stuck with an emotional and rash decision that they made without proper analysis. Shouldn't have agreed with it in the first place!!!! [shrug]
If your looking for one person to blame, point a finger at half the American Public, because this is not one man's war IT IS MANY'S.

Originally posted by LordofADownI think you've got it all wrong; it was not the American people that demanded war, it was this administration that lied by presenting a picture to the American people which made war seem like the only option. Only once the populace realized the reasons for war were a farce did it start to lose its popularity. Its popularity was also not helped by the fact that the those in charge had a warped view of the reality on the ground, and didn't have a cohesive strategy for fighting a protracted insurgency. In addition, they failed to understand the complexities of Iraqi society and allowed sectarian violence to spiral out of control. Thus it was not "drop of the hat" as you suggested.

Furthermore, throughout this all the administration has shown arrogance and contempt toward dissenters, and what you view as strong and steady leadership is simply refusal to change an obviously failing strategy. While you may not respect a president that admits to mistakes, I'd discard this president with "his eyes set on victory" for one that realized when a plan was broken and attempted to find a working solution any day.
EDIT: This thread should be in debates.
While you may not respect a president that admits to mistakes,Whoa Whoa Whoa, YOU think it's a mistake, he was prepared for the consequences and he accepts them, this is no mistake to him. Don't put words in my mouth because I never said that, I said that I would not support a president that would be full set on a War one week and want to take it back the next, because that shows major failures in planning. A president that does that should have seen that the war wasn't going to work before he deployed. It shows lack of foresight as I stated before and that is irresponsibility, and that is the LAST trait we need in our highest position. You may say that we were duped into it, but why didn't the American People get all the facts straight before they began to express their support for war? There were plenty of people full willing to explain the consequences this war could bring, but the American Public was too rash to wait and think about the decision. This is OUR fault(Americans), not the fault of one man.
