In no particular order, and probably missing several because I don't recall release dates, but some of my favourites this year included:
Vowels 'The Pattern Prism'
**** Buttons - 'Tarot Sport'
Tortoise - 'Beacons of Anscestorship' (Not their best, but still damned fine)
Riceboy Sleeps - 'Riceboy Sleeps'
Dan Deacon - 'Bromst'
Bibio - 'Ambivalence Avenue' (although I think I prefer the pre-Warp stuff, to be honest)
Taken by Trees - 'East of Eden'
The Bird and the Bee - 'Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future'
Bleeding Heart Narrative - 'Tongue Tangled Hair
Yo la tengo 'popular songs' (seeing them live on Friday, hooray!)
Enough to be getting on with?

"Best" usually implies it has some longevity to it.

I do enjoy Taken by Trees' version of 'My Girls'. 🙂
Originally posted by uzlessI disagree: I can come back to a great album having forgotten how good it was for years; I can listen an album to death and need a year without it; I can listen to a great album less frequently than less good albums (the Vowels album is a good example).

But it's a good question nonetheless. I think:
Vowels, **** Buttons, Riceboy Sleeps, Taken by Trees, Bleeding Heart Narrative.
Tortoise - Beacons of Anscestorship
The Decembrists - The Hazards Of Love
Califone - all my friends are funeral singers
Akron/Family - Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free
Church - Untitled #23
Steve Kilbey & Martin Kennedy - Unseen Music Unheard Words
The Witch And The Robot - On Safari
Mark Kozelek - Lost Verses - Live

I like to see what you all have liked in 2009. Gonna do some mass d/ling tonight and I'm always looking for suggestions.
Mine, in order:
1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
Are there any others on that list of yours that I'd like?
*AWESOME 320kbps! Not as good as vinyl, but what can you do?
Originally posted by hopscotchFrom what I recall your tastes are pretty eclectic so there's probably a couple things in there you'd like. Personally, I'm really enjoying a couple of DrKF's choices, especially Tarot Sport by F--- Buttons. You should give that album a whirl.

Originally posted by darvlayThanks man, I'm downloading Tarot Sport now, unfortunately some lame seeders so it's very slow.

Is there anything on your list that you'd recommend that's nice and guitarry and drummy, but not too noisy and shouty?
