Why am I getting offer to play and it turns out to be a scammer. I had an offer a couple of days ago. They played white and their first move was a6. That was a red flag for me. Soon after I got an offer to go to WhatsApp to continue. I, immediately, deleted the game. 2 questions. Why am I getting this and is there anyway to avoid getting these?

I have been playing on RHP for over 20 years and most of my opening moves are well, unorthodox, likely the reason for my “stellar” rating. Now having said that I haven’t been offered to continue on WhatsApp. What is WhatsApp?

Had random messages before but never with them actually starting a game. Only thing to do is delete and block.

That’s what I have been doing. I don’t understand why they are allowing this to happen on this site

The key seems to be when they ask you to "talk off site". I have a game like that right now. As soon as you refuse they abandon the game.

I hope you report these people to Russ so he can block them and stop them trying the same thing on other players.

Yes, I know they can sign up again under another user name but I don't think anything can be done about that.

If you get message to continue a conversation 'off site' then send feedback right away so these parasites can be removed.

I thought there was a way of stopping provisional rated players from challenging you?

New players start with a rating of 1200.
Set your challenge rating above 1200 and that should do it.
If they don't play chess,their rating will never change
