Is J.J Abrams' film "1-18-08" about Cthulhu?

One seems to vaguely hear a woman saying R'lyeh at around 37 seconds of the Apple trailer. (right before the first roar/groan).

Most likely Abrams is just throwing pieces that don't belong in the puzzle, but I find myself curious about this one.

The trailer is appalling. Directors should stay away from Lovecraft, they simply don't understand him.

Perhaps you're right...Although Hollywood is rather good at haxploitation (Dan Brown, if you please), the Weird Fiction of the Pulp Master that HPL undoubtedly was may just be too much for it to comprehend, in the full sense of that word (the tentacled horror is more likely to wrap itself around you than vice-versa). Imagine trying to film a Borges story; the challenge would not be too dissimilar.

I always thought that the library story from 'Fictions' would make a great short film.

It would, and so would a number of other ones. "A New Refutation of Time" should make a lovely film essay...I don't think the disaster movie format would be suitable, though.

When I tried to think of Borges and film, the library was what came to my mind. Maybe we should tell a film producer about it.

Since Borges also once wrote a Lovecraftean short story, perhaps the two of them could have a write-off (in a library).

I've heard about it. It's in the "Book of Sand", no? I haven't read that one yet.

That's where it is; "There are more things".

My favourite book as a whole is "A Universal History of Iniquity", but I can't say I prefer any one collection of stories to another. Forced to choose, I'd take the Book of Sand, because it includes poems as well as stories. Also, maybe, because I have read Fictions more.
