1.Rxh7 and if Nxg6 then 2.Qxg6 with the threat 3.Rxg7+ Bxg7 4.Qh7#. If 2. ... anything else, then 3.Rh8+ Kxh8 4.Rh1+ and 5.Qh7# All very straightforward. The knight on d6 covering square f7 makes it very easy. It is much more interesting to finish the game without that knight.
There is only 1 accurate #5 here. The mate in 5 is dependent on finding blacks accurate delaying responses; more-so than finding white's threats.
PM'd issue.
Unsolved.

Solved (with my original post).
Edit. try to solve it without the knight on d6.

(ragwort...good workup...getting there..)
...Subtracting the Knight on d6 makes for #8 but has multiple possible answers due to the h7 discovered check after the capture. This puzzle has only 1 accurate mate in 5.
#8 (minus d6 knight) as:

Do you need a list of all black's moves that will be answered by one of the two white replies? It's a long list of irrelevant options with always the same two possible answers.

The 'multiple possible answers' in the other puzzle (without knight) are only due to the fact that the bishop can retreat to a number of squares (except g6), but the continuation is exactly the same in each case. I didn't 'compose' this, I only said that it is slightly more interesting than the original puzzle, where the solution is straightforward and where the 'longest' mate follows after a rather irrelevant prolongation (Bxd3, not doing anything against the threats).
Originally posted by Mephisto2Because that wouldn't be accurate. If Qxd6 (thats "anything else"😉 white can mate faster than Rh1. Therefore not applying to #5. Proper play by black yields only 1 result in which #5 occurs.

The 'multiple possible answers' in the other puzzle (with fter a rather irrelevant prolongation (Bxd3, not doing anything against the threats).
You did not say
Nxd3
at all in your post. My PM contained that hint.
Puzzle is pretty much beat now though due to you posting in the thread (with my hint) rather than in PM. Your original post did not meet the criteria.
