I'm 1618 USCF, and I would probably score 1 in a seven game match with a 1900 player (depending on who the player was). 300 point upsets are not uncommon.
Lets talk about ratings.
If someone is 300 points below you out of 4 games he is suppose to win 1 game.
100 point below you, 5 games 3/5 for the higher rated player
etc...

These are just estimates so yes it is completely reasonable.
Originally posted by RahimK15% out of 7 games would be 1.05 wins for the 300 pts weaker player, so pretty much what wulebgr estimated. -but of course 7 games is far too few games to draw any reliable statistical conclusions...

Originally posted by powershakerPerhaps you should learn how the rating system works and what win expectancy is. For this you'll need to know at least high school level probability and some other assorted basic math. Good luck.
Okay, here's the story. I played this 1400 player 7 games OTB, and I beat him 6 out of 7. How could I lose one game against him if I'm around 1700 OTB? Is that the expectation for a 1400 versus a 1700?
Originally posted by powershakerIn fact you outperformed your rating by 0.057 points so it's your opponent who should be disappointed!

Originally posted by JusuhWas desperate for a game is more like it. hehe 1400 players at least give me a good struggle. They get into complicated positions, and it's not just swapping like with 1300 and below players. They actually let me pull some pretty tactics, because their bad moves seem to be more complex. π
hah hah hah.
desperate, eh?
Originally posted by SchumiI guess I just hate to lose to a player that's 1400. But, I feel better after this thread. I'm currently playing him a 10 game match, because he actually thought that one win meant he could win some more. So far, the tally is ME: 3 wins HIM: 0 wins. I plan on playing the last three games and sweeping the series. I think I just played a bad game that one time. I'm going to try and sweep him 6 - 0. But, I realized to play my best I have to really think and take my time. I can't be moving so quick. That's why I've been sweeping him. I've been playing him like I am playing my 1700 Saitek chess computer. Hence, 3 wins in a row and three more to come. π
