Listen I have been in an argument with my friend, and he says that the analyze button on the red hot pawn web site is cheating. He says that in real time chess (on the board you are not allowed to have a chess board alongside you so that you can change the positions of the pieces, so that you can determine the outcome of your discussions (with out the help of mental aide, the computer)) is cheating. I put it to you that if every one that uses red hot pawn to analyze board then it is ok, as long as the same privilege is allowed to be shown to the red hot pawn community then there is no cheating but if one was and one was not then it would be, I also stated that there was not a rule to state that it was against any rules to set up your own chess board along side a game and determine the best position possible out come, despite time constraints or not it was said by me that there was no rule to indicate the for or against perspective of any suggestions
Originally posted by benawWe have had this discussion many tmes, it is the same argument people make against using databases. Over the board chess (OTB) is a different game than correspondence chess (CC). We play CC here on RHP, hence the analyze button feature is legal (as woud be setting up your own board and analyzing). The only thing that is illegal is asking a person or program that can evaluate a position for help. Hence, books and databases are ok, fritz, Kasparov or the club player down the street are not.

Originally posted by benawNow you tell me how the hell is that cheating???? Maybe otb would be, but not on correspondence it aint. If they didnt have it as a feature, whats to prevent one from setting up a board next to ones computer? Absolutely nothing wrong with it....I find that feature EXTREMELY help[ful/. Sort of lets you see what can and will happen in the game. Still using your mind in the game.

In OTB however, you can looks at other boards and get ideas from them if you want, but the chance of having the exact same position is very rare unless if its still the opening.

it's very simple. it's not about points of view, it's about rules: this is correspondence chess, [b]not regular chess. they have different rules.
