17. Rc2 Bxg5

9 minutes.

Doubling up on the c-file. Black is trading down to make his position less cramped.

18. h4 to put more pressure on the K-side
18...f6 to kick the Knight out.

I had the right moves in mind for move 16, but didn't get them in on time. You might say I got into time trouble 😉 Move 17 I had all wrong.

I guess this is a point in the game where one is supposed to decide a strategic plan and start building towards that. That is also something I am not particularly good at, but let me give it a shot.

There are no obvious tactical considerations that I can see and development is mostly done. I don't really see any imbalances except for the following:
1. The g6 pawn slightly weakens the king side pawn structure, especially
with the dark squared bishop gone.
2. White has more pieces directed towards the kingside than black.

Given this, it seems that white should go for a kingside attack. With that in mind, I propose:
18. h4

As for black, there is no imminent danger on the kingside so he can afford to look elsewhere. White's d4 pawn is a potential target, but there is no immediately obvious way to exploit that. On the other hand, the Knight on g8 is "grim" (with apologies to Nimzowitch). Hence I think
18. ... Nf6 - gets the Knight out and prevents an immediate h5.

Time spend: 10 minutes.

18.Rc2 Rfc8

Controlling the c-file for both side.

This is a hard one.

I quite like 18.Nxd7 Qxd7 (19.Ne5 Qmoves 20.f4 or Rc2...)

then controlling the c file is still possible.......

Did anyone consider 18.Be4? I looked at it but I though after Ngf6 and Nxd5 it would basically be the same. I felt that the c-file was more important.

I like
19. fRd1 because it moves the attacked rook and defends the somewhat open d-pawn.
Black will play eighter a6 (defending the bishop and nutralize the otherwise crushing Rc5) or fRd8 getting ready to attack the weak pawn but in the mean while also neutralizing the Rc5.
so I guess 19......Rfd8 is my move

19.Rfd1 Ngf6

19.Rfd1 to move the endangered Rook, to d1 so that the white Queen can move and leave the isolated d pawn still defended...and

Ngf6 to develop the backward Knight, connect the two black knights in mutual defence and threaten the white Bishop.
