I don't understand how this is even subject to discussion. There's an obvious correlation between blitz and standard and it's a very strong one. maybe just a little bias toward the younger generation might be expected because of their familiarity with online chess, but then, ivanchuk had won Blitz WC recently, anand was 2nd this year etc.

"blitz performance" on ICC shouldn't be the only reference about this discussion because competitively active GMs don't take online blitz seriously, and probably have little experience with it compared to IMs who play poker and ICC online instead of just taking one step further in OTB.

I'm sure if standard chess was removed from this lovely earth we live in and ICC blitz were the only thing left that counts; given that all top GMs would have their time to close up the experience gap, those IMs would drop one by one from the list and the current classical top 10 would take over.

To forget previous moves he has played - that would be too crazy even for Ivanchuk.

You are "sure", but I'm not. Speculations is not argument.

It seems to me he was completely disturbed by the fact he couldn't play h1-h0 to promote his pawn once more

nothing is too crazy for IvanchukπŸ™‚.

by the way, Kasparov has done that in his last game against Kramnik in the WC match. in fact he played a perpetual because he forgot his king's position.

Show me any Karpov's tournament 2007-2009 when he made 2700+ performance in standart time control. I guess you still haven't checked his results.
it is ok, Karpov did not do a 2700+ performance also the the blitz tournament...I suppose you did not check the performances from Tal blitz tournament
