I'm looking for some ideas for playing my Sicillian dragon against the Yugoslav attack with g4, h4.

That is the one line which destroys me everytime. I've practically decided to drop the Dragon because of the line.

    Any ideas gratefully accepted.

    h5 and rook on c8. I'm a patzer so that's all I can say.

Offer a pawn sacrifice with b5 to open lines, specifically against g4 before h4

Post an actual line, it's useless to talk about the Dragon without being completely specific. I love the Dragon, so I'd love to help, but please give a specific line.

This is pretty much the line I'm talking about...

    1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. f3 Bg7 7. Be3 O-O 8. Qd2
    Nc6 9. O-O-O Bd7 10. g4 *

    with this being the position...

with 11. h4 to follow. I won't give black's 10th move as I'm not sure what the best 1 is. Also, I'm not entirely happy with 9...Bd7.

    Thanks,

You could try a line known as the 'Chinese Dragon', which involves putting the rook on b8, instead of the normal c8 square, and playing an early ..b5.

I've used this line in a few games with great results. For instance:-

    Game 2142212

    Game 3270212

    Game 2472701

The last game was very entertaining!

    I'm guessing the following one: 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 g6 6 Be3 Bg7 7 f3 Nc6 8 Qd2 O-O 9 O-O-O Bd7 10 g4. Of course, Black has two common divergences on move 9: Nxd4 or d5.

I guess this is where the specific line needed to be given.

I've no problem playing against the Yugoslav when Bc4 has been played as it gives me a target to gain tempo for my own development. My HUGE problem is against white lines where the light bishop stays at home, and the tempo is invested instead in the g and h pawn advance.

I'll find a few games to post.

If White plays 9.0-0-0 instead of Bc4, I think Black should definitely play ..d5. With the bishop on f1, lines with ..Bd7 are too slow.

If White delays castling, playing moves like g4 or h4, then Black has various options that are playable.

Like i said, you could immediately play b5 without the need for Rb8 beforehand. You probably don't have the tempo for Rb8 now.

Well the problem is that 9...Bd7 in that position is known to be not so good for Black, so it's no surprise that you're having trouble. Play 9...d5! As far as the book, it's Play the Sicilian Dragon by Dearing. Great book.

If I could...I after 10.exd5 Nxd5 11.Nxc6 bxc6 12.Bd4! Black has a few options, but the mainline option of 12...e5 doesn't seem that strong to me, as Tony illustrated in this game:

    Game 2579064

I've also played the white side of that variation and generally felt white has a pretty good edge. So instead of that mainline move you (Rag/Wormwood) might want to check out 12...Nxc3 as a good alternative.

Nb4 ? whats wrong with this? threatens the a pawn, if their isn't an immediate reaction, he has strong play with Qa5, furthermore it promotes white into prematurely moving his knight for a discovered attack with his queen, therefore removing part of the center threat by the knight, i don't see any errors with this play...although be it super aggressive.
