Either genius or engine...?
a.) someone has WAY too much time on their hands
b.) someone used an engine to make himself look smart
or, the most likely:
c.) someone copy/paste someone else's hard work on a problem in our chess forums to try an impress us...

if it was as simple as teaching someone "the best moves" chess would be almost as boring as it is already
actually, i don't mean it like that...
chess isn't boring...
but it takes a ridiculously large amount of time for the average person to reach just the level of "good"
i don't pretend to be good, largely because I don't have the t ng by asking for the best moves like there's a magic trick to improving your chess...
EDIT: I meant naive may have been the adjective you were looking for
I'm not that good right now, but I have improved about 350 points over a year ago, so maybe I can help you out a bit-
You seem to already know basic piece endgames.
If you want to improve, you need tactics. No one will argue with that. I highly recommend you get Chess Tactics for Beginners by Convekta (CD) This is a fabulous program with about 1300 puzzles. It gives you a rating and allows you to play out the position if you don't agree with the solution. It's about 25 bucks, but will improve your game tremendously.
Second, play lots of tournaments. You can easily improve just through play. I play about 2 every month.
Three- Make sure you have king and pawn endgames nailed down. For example, make sure you know the concepts of opposition, rook pawns, the square of the pawn, etc. very well.
Some good endgame books are Winning Chess Endings by Y. Seirawan, Pandolfini's endgame course by B. Pandolfini, Just the Facts by L. Alburt and N. Krogius, and Silman's complete endgame course by J. Silman.
Strategy- Get winning chess strategies by Y. Seirawan. Fantastic book.
Develop a study program. I make notebooks and paste diagrams in them. I find it helps me retain the information better.

rb, do you understand that the better players here can't just pour the knowlege into your head? You have to put forth some effort to learn.
Did you look at any of Dan Heisman's Novice Nook articles like I suggested? All I got in response from you was, "right...", which I'm not sure how to interpret. I'm really beginning to think that you're not sincere and that you're just jerking us around.[/b]
Originally posted by rubberjaw30That's not true. Look at all the threads about how to reach specific rating and someone's chess lessons (I think it was RahimK) where games are analyzed and puzzles posted, all the discussions over openings. Of course you can find a lot of useless crap but that doesn't mean that you can't find anything useful.
i thought there was an invisible banner with the words NOTHING USEFUL written clearly across it?!?!
Originally posted by range blastsrb, sorry if I misjudged your intent. It's just that there's a certain flippancy to your posts that raised a red flag with me. But if you're serious, then great, you'll get lots of support here.

Regarding Heisman's Novice Nook articles - No, I wasn't thinking of any one specific article of his. It's just that Dan is a very good chess instructor, and these Novice Nook articles allow you to pick his brain for free.
