Please note the final position. You've just discovered a fairly common mating pattern. Someone pointed this pattern out to me not long ago, and ever since, I've noticed that it pops up on a fairly regular basis.
You have the black king on c7 and two other black pieces on b7 and c8. The white queen on d6 is attacking the king and is protected by the knight on f7. And the black king has no place to hide - checkmate. And it doesn't have to be a knight that protects the queen. Any other piece that covers the queen will work just as well. Also note that if either of the black pieces on b7 or c8 is a knight, not only is there no checkmate, but black comes out better. Try to remember that mating pattern - You're going to see it again and again.

What rank do I have? I don't think I have any rank, so that can't be the reason. But seriously, even though I registered a while back, I only started playing here recently. And I've been looking for open invites from people around 1500-1600 at a certain time control, but they're apparently as rare as hen's teeth. I'll probably have to start sending out my own invites soon, I guess.
