I got into a position where I was a pawn up, and exchanged down to a bishop and pawns ending, thinking that if I could get all my pawns on the opposite colour to my opponent, then it should be a fairly straightforward win.

I managed to reach the following position as black, but then thought I saw a winning line and simply exchanged off my opponents pawns which were stuck on the colour of the two bishops (g4 and e4).

Can anybody see any way of winning the pawns from the given position, or was it drawn even then? Any principle to be aware of?

Sorry, my first post was wrong. My only excuse for making this mistake is that I haven't had my coffee yet. 🙂

So yes, it was white to move.

In the game play continued 37. Bg6 Kc5 I think that instead 37... Be6 would have won For example...
... be6
Bf5, Bxf5
(exf5 is a win for black as long as you mind the fact that g5 gives him a passed f-pawn)
gxf5, Kc5
b3, d5
exd, Kxd
h5, e4 when black pushes the pawn down then runs his king over to nab the exposed b-pawn

after white's Bg6 Be6 is winning for black, isn't it ?

See the post above yours 😛

At a quick glance, it seems to me that the Black will have little difficulty marching down the c-file to eventually win the b-pawn with chances to attach the pawn on e4 is White does not play this properly.

Please, do not make accusations in the forum. Did it come to your mind that the edit in Mad Rook's post may have been the explanation rather than what you are insinuating?

No, if you look carefully at my (Mad Rook) first posting, there is one edit to that posting. I initially incorrectly stated that it was black to move, only because in my decaffinated state, I looked at the game diagrams wrong. So I edited my initial posting to make the correction. So when I said "my first posting", I meant my first unedited posting for Mad Rook. Is that all clear to you now?
