this is not about you the person, nor e5, this is about the principle.
you, the person, are cordially invited to participate.

Thank you! 😀
I agree that we shouldn't use engines in this match, because it's "RHP vs IronMan", and not "RHP guided by engines vs IronMan."

Ironman31 vs.RHP

1.e4 c6
2.d4

I vote 2...d5 for the simple reason we're still in the opening phase (book) and 2...d5 is the only sensible choice.

Yup, it sure looks that way, although looking through my Kasparov database, he played 2...d6 against Deep Blue and got a draw out of it.

We're probably better off sticking to book though.

Shall we put this to the vote straight away, as there doesn't seem to be too many options?

2 ...d5 is definitely the way to go here. Anything else would be going against our opening move of c6. D5 supports the center, attacks the white e-pawn, and forces white to either exchange or defend the e-pawn with a piece.

Ironman has stated he'll go into the classical line.

Here's the game so far...

1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3

Any options other than the book... dxe4?

Well there's 3...e6, ...g6, or ...Nf6. But I wouldn't recommend any of them. I tried g6 recently against an unamed "marauding" opponent. Didn't work out too well.

Since 3...dxe5 has been played for about 150 years, I'm sticking with that.

I'm just not sure whether I should start it now, cos it might be flooding the chess forum playing two of these types of games.

Any thoughts.

If it is everyone versus Ironman, it is really him verse the next best player, because he has the best move in mind. But I find it hard to believe that he has one lost what engine does he use. The Deep Blue engine?

Do you say stuff like that JUST to start a fight?

That's out of order Rb.

Way does that upset you do you cry, no I was being Serious.

I go that idea from my dad, he says he finds it hard to believe that Ironman has 1 lose. There have been games that he could have lose but they were drawn.

I'm not getting into that RB. This thread isn't for that. If you want to make accusations about a player then do so privately with the site's management.

Nf6 is SOMETIMES alright to play, but then he'll just play e5 to mix it up and I don't want to get into that and that's actually pretty bad for us. We will get to play Nf6 later though, there's other pressing matters because Nf6 has no urgency and can be played at anytime. We must develop other peices that may be more troublesome if not developed soon enough, that's why newbies avoid the Caro, they have to develop certain peices first or else they are simply dead, so they think the opening is inferior, but it's not.

dxe4, develop the queenside peices immediately.

Seeing as there doesn't seem to be too much discussion on this move, I'll put it to the vote.

The moves mentioned here are

dxe4
e6
g6
Nf6

so the votes will be on those. 😕

Game 868388

Here's the game so far...
1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4

I like 4...Bf5 here. I've seen a couple of IronMan's games where 4...Nf6 is played, and IronMan has taken with the black knight, creating doubled pawns immediately.
