Well, I guess he made the move that we all expected, 13. Bxd6. Is there any need to put this move through the whole discussion/voting process. Seems to me that 13 ...Qxd6 is our only move.

If nobody says any different in the next couple of hours, I'm just going to go ahead and make the move.

No choice. He will move one of his two knights next. Both will be fine for you if you keep simplifying. I foresee a long and protracted endgame from here and probably a draw.

Shockingly, IM has played 14. Ne4. 😉 I still quite like 14 ...Qb4+, which may lead onto a queen exchange with doubled pawns for white, retreat of one of IM's attacking knights, or a pushing of the c pawn. Our options will still be open to retreat to c7 if he doesn't offer the queen exchange and we feel the need to move the queen back into the action.

Well, 14...Qe7 seems to be the most played move here, though I too am in favor of 14...Qb4. And unless someone comes with a better idea these are the moves we should make our choice from.

Hi there,

Just wondering whether you would care to elaborate a bit on Qe7 being the superior move (with 2(!) exclamation marks 🙂)?

Is it becausse Qb4 will end up with a queen exchange and a game that's most likely to be a draw?

Or is the "defensive" move better for some reason I can't see?

Just wondering.

my choice would be Qb4+ trade the queens and castle queen side to get my rook on that pawn since it can't be protected except by a peice

Can u point us to any online resource with some information on this position? We seem to be in a losing position at the moment, and Qb4+ looks like it could relieve some of the pressure we are under.

After 14 ... Qb4+, there are 4 choices...

a) 15. Qc3 Qxc3+ 16. bxc3 [16. Nxc3 Nge6] Ke7 17. Nc5 Nxc5 18. dxc5
b) 15. Nc3 Ngf6 16. d5 Qd6
c) 15. c3 Qe7
d) 15. Nfd2, not sure how this one goes. Quite a few options after this move

a) and b) look good to me. c) doesn't cost us anything, and we slightly weaken the castled kings defence. d) is a bit of an unknown, but its a non-threatening defensive move, and IM has stated he hates playing defensively.

Qe7 - playing it through each time, I get a pawn advantage for Black and a difficult endgame which will be challenging. I think IM's settled on winning the endgame.

What's the line where u get the pawn advantage? Post it up and let us have a look at it.
