You might think so, but while Game 3428503 is in progress it's probably better not to venture an opinion.

One way to find out if your opponent has insufficient mating material is to click on the claim draw button next time you move. Or you could just go online and learn what constitutes sufficient mating material.

Theres not even a help mate available... what difference does it make?

are we looking at the same game, black has a queen???
EDIT: granted white SHOULD have drawn that (Kg7?, better was Kg5, staying in front of the pawn)

I'm pretty sure this site doesn't allow "claim draw" for insufficient material. It's one of those things that has been brought up multiple times before in the site ideas forum.

The game seems to have finished now...at the time of the original post I think one player had a knight and a threatened pawn v's a king and was wondering if - after losing the pawn - the game would be a draw.

However, the opponent missed the chance to capture the pawn by moving beside it, instead of in front. The cheeky pawn (still on it's starting square) jumped two squares to evade capture then raced down the board and promoted to queen. The need to know if you could still win with only a knight became redundant and a win soon followed.

57.Kg7 appears to have been a game losing blunder.

How did I miss the queen/pawn? I only saw the knight when I looked.

Funny, that was exactly what white player must have thought in the game.

A game is drawn by insufficient material if neither side has any of the following.

1) Queen
2) Rook
3) At least 2 Minor Pieces (Bishop/Knight)
4) Pawn (which could possibly promote to a major piece.

Now King + 2 Knights VS King is almost always a draw, because 2 knights cannot force mate. However, helpmate (and hence a blunder) can allow the knight side to mate, and as such that scenario is not an automatic draw by insufficient material.

Not sure how RHP handles this, but I would think it would be able to examine the position for these possibilities and declare them draws. However, that doesn't mean that it does.

EDIT: Just though of something. King + Minor VS King + Minor may possibly result in mate as well, owing to the fact that a king in the corner may get cut off by his own man
