no, we don't. the only thing in that title which actually has something to do with the content is the age. because it's relevant, the younger a player becomes, the more surprising his/her strong play becomes. that's natural. and that's exactly what is wrong in saying "black kid". because it implies there's a surprising factor in being both black and good at chess, just like there really is a surprising factor being both very young and succesful.
in simple terms:
1) the colour of the player is absolutely irrelevant, being black has nothing to do with chess. yet, it is mentioned. (wonder why (!) ).
2) if the colour of the player were white, it wouldn't be mentioned.

But likewise, its ridiculous that this thread title is considered racist. Maybe you wouldn't say 'some white kid beat up kasparov,' but so what? Get used it it, a lot of us are living in countries where the majority of the population are white. Sometimes people do refer to 'black people.' But guess what; in some African contries, they refer to white people. Is that racist? Of course its not! People need to get over the whole white guilt thing. There is absolutly no difference between black or white people except for something that does not matter. Why are we even having this conversation?

regardless of whether the title is meant to be opressive or not (and it obviously isn't) it is meant to be a joke (little black kid beats up....etc.) We've all laughed at an ethnic joke before in our lives, so lighten and and realize that it's just a bit of cute humor.

If you believe this person to be racist then surely you would wish them to change there views and I don't see how this could help. Calling people names and public ridicule is what racists do.
Surely you can find a better way to oppose racism than adopting the methods of racists.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the racists like the Klanners are more bothered (or feel threatened?) by the "gangster" image some minorities choose to display (Americans know what I'm talking about) and would have no problem with a minority who acts just like they do.
The truth is, everyone thinks highly of themselves and people similar to them. I can venture that most players on this site are white, and don't see many black chess players, and are thus surprised.
