    19. Kd2 then 19...d5! looks good, since 20. g5 Nh5 21. exd5 Nf4 threatens threatens ...Nxd5, and gives Black good play.

19...Bxg4 is also certainly a possibility. Maybe if your plan is Kd2, then g5 should be played first. This also prevents the ...Be8 and ...Nd7 plan.

Next time, the group can just get together and study an opening variation. We haven't even needed an opponent yet. hehe 🙂

For those just joining, I will sort out what we just said.

    14. .... b5 15.b3 b4 16.bxc4 bxc3 17.Qxc3 Qc7

18.Kc1 (was my suggestion ... and could more than likely not be best)

    18. ... Rc8 (18. ... d5 (?!) 19.g5 ! )
    19. g5 ( 19. Kd2 d5 or Bxg4)

    is where we are.

I was looking at that. Be5 and control of f4 might be an idea for black.

I am really disliking this line for black at the moment.

I don't know what to make of any of this.

    19. g5 Nh5 20. Kd2 d5!? (maybe) 21. exd5 Nf4 looks interesting. Black's down a lot of material, but it's really messy. 22. Bxf4 looks pretty terrible, but it's not easy to find any other contructive plan....22...Nxd5 is a major threat here.

Interestingly, I like this line for Black. Marching your king to d2 doesn't seem like a constructive plan.

The general idea was not to simply move in the corner and give black a fixed target. White may slowly take over the b file with the two rooks and get active. I don't see anything all that great for black either.

I see why this position is judged unclear from the beginning of the exchange sac. You really just have to play a lot of games and see how they turn out. 🙂
