gambit he's pawns away .. I thought somebody once said you can't teach computers sacrifice. It was in one of those space odyssey films..

5. d5xc6 (unless somebody knows why we shuoldn't)
Seems to me that when you take the offered pawn you will give ChessMaster two knights in play and the ability to bring out the rest quickly. White has not started yet. Taking the pawn is risky? If you did not want a e4 game then you do not want that pawn.

I think Nf3 loses

5. Nf3 e5e4
6. d3xe4 c3xd5
7. e4xd5 Nc6xd5

So cannot be played..

it looks like some kind of smith-morra gambit reversed (e4 c5, d4 cxd,
c3 dxd, Nxc3) but with both sides having an extra move to play Nf6 and a3. To have the reverse extra move Nf3 in the smith-morra is very useful, more useful than a6, but i don't think there's any choice but to accept the pawn and then follow up Nxc6 with Nc3 (taking advantage at least of black being unable to play Bb4) and then making a small centre with e3 (not e4 just yet) and getting the king of out of the centre as quickly as possible.

I vote to take the pawn, it is a gamit to gain possition for black but not taking it will only benefit black more. However I am very surprised by blacks move as I dont think the gambit is worth the possitional advantage.

I agree we take the pawn if we don't black is going to be able to build strong pawn center.. I vote we take c6 and then think about getting our king safe.

I have a game here on RHP where I play this gambit, only with reversed colors. From experience of said game I vote Nf3.

dxc6. We shouldn't be afraid to take any advantage we can against chessmaster. If we wait too long to be aggressive, then we'll regret not going for it when he tramples us. I think we can fend him off.

Plus, as was previously said, this is just like a Smith Mora gambit with reversed colors, and we've played a6 (a3 technically) already. It's perfectly acceptable to take the pawn in the Smith Mora. I don't see why we shouldn't.

I still vote we take it. how long exactly did chessmaster take on this gambit or is it using book moves. which if it was would of moved within seconds, and if thats the case then we should take the pawn. I think it's going to get ugly if we don't.

I think we should take the pawn regardless of whether it was a book move. If chessmaster calculated it itself, it calculated for both us taking the pawn and not taking it. We don't know which one it thought was better but it still looks to me like a bad idea not to take it. While we dont want a super open game, giving black a big center to crush us to bits with won't help either.

I vote to take the gambited pawn...

ChessMaster has a reputation of making surprising new moves in the opening, it's not 100% computerized in this area, I must say, it does occasionally think up of something creative by itself, I have the program, so I know. A warning though, do not underestimate it's openings like this, it usually lays a lot of traps humans fall for, but with all of us voting and puting our heads together, I think we can survive this, so just take the pawn, not taking it seems even worse.
