Can you see Bxf6 gxf6 and then the King is exposed?
Yeah. Thats why I was thinking Nb5. I thought that would threaten the black bishop and expose the white bishop at the same time. I think I can see why the other knight move is better though.

After Nb5 Black could play Be7.
Nxe6 grabs a pawn, threatens the rook and if black doesn't do anything then white can play Nxg7 eliminating the defender or the f6 knight.
Lots of tactics involve the clearance theme. You have to move one of your pieces quickly and the best way to do that is do something aggressive. No time for quite move.

Try the next puzzle. It's easier.
Ah yeah didn't see that. I've gone through your moves and with hindsight it seems obvious. Despite the intital lose of the knight white still controls the board so black really is left little choise or it will lose more material. I'll have a look at the third.

Ok I've been looking at this for about 40 minutes. I've tried a bunch of things but none seem to improve the situation and most make it worse. Is there any spesific way of dealing with these problems or do you just need the 'gift'?

Perfect practice makes perfect.
Practice. There's no gift, trust me, it's practice.

Well I'll stick at it. I'm starting at uni in October so I'll be able to join the chess club there. Looking forward to being able to get a subscription.

Black to move.
Wow, this is a nice thread. Neat puzzles as well. As for the third one I'd play 1. .. d3! giving a fork. If 2. Rxd3 then 2. .. Rxd3 3. Qxd3 e4 and white goes a piece down.

Maximum 5 minutes and then give up. Chances are that if you don't find it by then, you won't.
After doing a few of these you will eventually catch on. The ones I am posting aren't that easy actually.
Winning Chess Tactics by GM Yasser Seirwan is a great book and has great puzzles in it. You should check that out.
Do you want easier puzzles? I can send you a link.
