White to move

This is a continuation from #1. Black has used his rook to take the white h pawn, then traded it off for whites a pawn which was about to queen. Now white is up a rook but black his trying to queen his own h pawn, the question is, how do you stop it. White should win this game ...[text shortened]... one wins. I, of course, picked the winning move, now it's your turn. White to play and win.
1.Kxg5 must win. E.g. 1. ... h2 2.Rxf4+ Kg2 3.Rh4 and the white f-pawn will run for promotion.

In the original diagram, after 1.Bxa6 Rb4 still may give white a hard time, for instance 2.a5 Kf8 and black uses the position of his knight in a more active way. White is still better, but there is a lot of game still.

White to move
This is a draw because after 1.Kxg5, Kxf2! 2.Rxf4+ Kg1 3.Rg4+ Kh1 4.Kf4 h2! 5.Rh4 Kg1, etc.

2.Rxf4+ is a mistake, the correct move is 2.Kxf4 after which white wins, for example 1Kxg5 Kxf2 2Kxf4! h2 3Ra2+ Kg1 4Kg3...black can only promote to a knight to delay mate but after 4..h1N 5Kf3 black looses.

Nice job again. I said you guys would find moves that I didn't see and you did. I completely missed blacks kxf2 instead of h2. Nice find Dutch Defense. The line we had played was the one given by Mephisto2.
Game 3176001

Black to play and lose.

It's great you guys found the win but do you know why it works? White had to find a way to either keep his f pawn and trade his rook, or keep his rook for mating material.

The move CM9000 saw for me was 1. ra3+. It seems wierd to just give up a pawn like that but it still gave black as winning. But white got to queen his pawn into a knight and could hold the draw I think. Good job everybody.

P.S. I still need many more endgame's to use. please send some over or this thread will die, thanks

Endgame #3

Black to play

Calling this endgame complicated is an understatement. Black is a pawn down and trying desperately to draw. Before we get into specifics, Lets hear what you guys think about...

-who's winning
-who will win
-what will be whites plan
-what is blacks next move and his plan for his next 5 moves

How about 1...f1=Q. Looks like an easy win for Black to me.

errr.... you should be looking at this from blacks point of view, which the diagram shows, black needs to queen a pawn at the top of the board, not down.

No, Just because someone is winning (see "I challenge" thread where black is up 3 pawns) doesn't mean he will win.
