The repetitive position rule was obviously included to patch a hole in the game.

I can see how it went down: "great, this idiot has chased me back and forth 100 times... now what? I give up, we'll call it a draw."

This is really the crux of it, isn't it? Not allowing someone to play a completely legal move, just because it might upset their opponent, is clearly ridiculous.

I believe it takes two people to force a 3-fold. Some of these guys are not getting it.

This can be forced by one user.

White to move... what is best for white? Not losing is.

Black has no choice, Black is forced into the 2 positions as White checks Black over and over at c8 and h3.

What I meant was both players have to make certain moves to allow it to happen, the example given shows that black did not foresee the possibility and so allowed it. And the player who does not believe in the draw could always resign after 2-fold repetition.

Maybe the real frustration is his opponent is ranked below 1100.

I played a fun otb game last night where I had a strong attack that my opponent defended very well. Down material I tried to 'force' a draw which my opponent refused by giving back material. I eventually won the game.

sometimes the best moves for one player( the "winning" player) allow the other player to get perpetual because if the first player played anything else they would lose the game.

That's no more a 'hole' than the draw due to insufficient mating material.

"Great, this idiot traded off all the pieces, and we've moved our Kings 100 times... now what? I give up, we'll call it a draw."

If you ask me both are simply unsporting behaviour and the inferior side should, therefore. lose the game. 😉

notice the winking smiley...? yeah that means he was joking. You couldn't beleive that Dragonfire would be so dull in the head as to think that there really was an inferior side to a KvK ending!
