gameknot is fine for playing, but watch their discussion site. i was banned for being "off topic" which is code for i don't like what you're saying. rhp is a complete site where you can get alot off your chest.

gameknot has its positives and negatives. for the price rhp kills gameknot. same with the gameload and even tournaments. gameknot has conditional moves which i like and a lot of stats but we are getting conditional moves soon so rhp is killing gameknot. also wee have over 200000 players on here gameknot only has 38000 huge difference in playing pools. rhp rules all.

Gameknot has over 600,000 registered users and 28,000 active players. RHP has 200,000 registered users and 18,500 active players. So, while the Gameknot pool is larger only 4.67% of registered users end up playing on the site, while 9.25% of those who register for RHP end up playing here, which speaks pretty strongly on the difference in quality between the two sites. I've also found that the median Gameknot rating is 1380 while it is 1280 here, so the abundance of 2000+ players on that site is simply due to rating inflation rather than many more higher quality players.

Aside from RHP, my favorite chess website is the "Openings for Amateurs" message board on the New Jersey Chess Federation website: http://www.njscf.org

It is moderated by frequent Chess Life contributor Pete Tamburro. IM John Watson has started posting on the site as well.

Yep, RHP. Not only a great chess site but also just a great website. Unfussy, info is presented clearly and sensibly. Very user friendly. Great!
