if you lose the game, then it's OK, because you didn't really concentrate on the game... you're on vacation, you see.
if you ran out of time, then there might be a chance the opponent might not take the win... cause he's being considerate... you are on vacation, you see.
if you win the game, then you are just brilliant... cause you win even though you didn't really concentrate on your game.... you're after all on vacation, you see.
Or perhaps you just forgot to change back that vacation symbol on your profile...

If they're moving?
I was recently away for 2 weeks, and tried to make moves in the games where the skull was going to appear. The others I just left alone, because I don't want to spend hours playing chess on holiday.
If I had inadvertantly allowed a skull to appear due to being unable to access the internet, I guess I was hoping that my opponent would have shown a little leniency.

Why put it up at all?
When you do some people who previously were taking 3 - 7 days a move start moving instantly obviously hoping for a win on time. You can guarantee they won't respect that vacation flag and will click the skull as soon as it appears.
Until the system is changed and we are all allowed a certain amount of vacation a year when we can't be timed out (or move for that matter) the vacation flag serves no purpose.
Originally posted by Dragon FireI think that is a reasonable idea that I would be glad to see happen. I think one reason a lot of people don't honor the vacation flag is they know that once a player starts timing out that a lot of people on here will take the skull causing their rating to plummett and meanwhile the person who honored the vacation flag is the sucker. Blocking people from timing someone out for say 2 weeks out of the year would help solve this problem.

I put the vacation flag up for information only. So far I have never been in the situation that anyone could have timed me out while I was away. But if I get the opportunity to take a skull, the vacation flag and the information going with it will be a factor in my decision whether to take the skull or not.
Originally posted by Dragon Fireyea, that was funny. I even took the time to inform them about the situation (I was moving and would have a random length offline period) by a pm, and almost every single one replied with something like: "sure, take all the time you need. I'll wait for you." and within 5 hours after I put up the sign all but one of them had moved the same day instead of the usual 7 days the had been taking.

so I moved in all games, and within 2 hours all 10 guys had moved again. so I moved again, and the next morning (the day I unplugged) they had moved again.
luckily I was offline only a week instead of the 6 weeks the isp had told me, so none of them could pull it off. needless to say, I showed no mercy towards them and won all the games.
I had a game and went on an 11 day cruise, time controls were set at 1 day and no timebank. Ususally my games a few moves are made each day, but my opponent was playing one move a day. Game was started well before cruise date. All my other games finished before my cruise. I was not sure if I would have internet access each day. Fortunatley I did and was able to continue a move each day. So there are reasons sometimes.
