Recap:
Two men are trying to deliver an object to a specific person in a specific apartment (flat) in this building. They have the correct address, including the apartment number. The object requires two men to carry it, and as a part of their job, they must enter the apartment they are delivering it to. For some (as yet unknown) reason they knock on every second door in the building. There is nothing about the men or the object that prevents them from knocking on the correct door, yet there is a reason why they have not. (Correct so far?) YES
Are the men aware of why they have not knocked on the correct door? YES
Is there something about the doors they have not knocked on that prevents them from knocking on them? NO
Are the men able to knock on the correct door? YES
Is the nature of the object being delivered relevant? YES
When you say the knock on every second door, does that mean that they skip a door, knock on a door, skip a door, knock on a door, etc.? YES
More specifically, do they physically pass by the doors they do not knock on? YES
Are the doors skipped generally identical in size, shape, and elevation to the doors knocked on? YES
Is the apartment building a typical average apartment building? POSSIBLY
More specifically, is there something unusual about this apartment building that is relevant to this puzzle? YES, (the puzzle would not work in all possible apartment buildings)

(Correct so far?)
{The confusing thing here is that the men know which door they need to knock on, they are able to knock on it, and yet they do not - and they are frustrated. Something doesn't seem to add up.}
In our previous puzzle, we were talking about chess in a figurative sense. Is there some similar figurative interpretation or play on words type of twist involved in this puzzle?
Is this apartment building a multi-story building?
Do the men want to knock on the correct door?
Are the men afraid of something unpleasant occurring if they knock on the correct door?
Do the men hope that by knocking on other doors, they might in some way cause something to happen that will allow them to make their delivery?

(Correct so far?) No, the bold sentence has something wrong.

Do you still stand by your earlier "YES" to the question: Do they physically pass by the doors they do not knock on? {As I understand it, they do not knock on the correct door, therefore it is one of the ones they do not knock on, and per your prior "YES" the bold statement above should be correct - of course, I could be missing something.}
Do the men want to knock on the correct door? CLARIFY
Since they are cursing, one can assume that they are not happy. I am inferring that they are unhappy because they have not knocked on the correct door, which would lead one to conclude that they want to knock on the correct door. We have previously clarified that they know which door is the correct door and they are able to knock on the correct door, and yet they do not. Hence, I am asking if it is correct to assume that they actually do want to knock on the correct door. I'm not sure what isn't clear about the question.
The delivery men knock on every second door, and the building is multi-story. Is it the case that the doors skipped are on the same level as doors knocked on?
Does the elevator in this building play a role in the puzzle?
Originally posted by The PlumberThey physically pass by the doors they don't knock on, yes, but I don't think that means they get to all the doors in the apartment block before they turn back, so there are some doors they don't pass by and so knocking or not on those doors never comes up - does that help?

As to wanting to knock on the correct door - if I want to visit my parents house, do I want to knock on their door? Or do I merely want to enter the house?

(Correct so far?)
To confirm - do the men pass by the door to the flat they intend to deliver to?
Are the men unable to get to the correct door (but woiuld be able to knock on it if they did)?
Clarification question:
When the men are knocking on every other door, are they knocking on all the
doors on one side of the building (that is, the inside or outside)?
Are all the doors they are knocking on consecutive?
Are all the doors they are NOT knocking on consecutive?
Does the object they are carrying physically prevent them from knocking on
the other doors?
Are the men knocking on all the doors intentionally (as opposed to
knocking on doors by accident because of their encumbered state)?
