A) I am white's first move in the game of kings I have how many choices?
Well, I am not sure that the first move has any choices, the player making it does...
B) Number of ways of winnings 0s and Xs
Probably equal to 8 or 16
C) "As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives. Every wife had seven sacks, every sack had seven cats, every cat had seven kitts. Kitts, cats, sacks, wives, how many were going to St. Ives?"
We don't know how many people were going there, we only know this man was, but many others could have been.
D) How many rings not owned by elves?
Probably 17
(Unknown * 17) = Unknown
(Zero times 8) = zero
So I've tried answers like "don't know nothing" with no luck
Of course there is the problem that I'm using quite a lot of the information and I should just use 2 lines.
Originally posted by The Plumberwell there's 17 rings only if you count Narya as still owned by Cirdan the Shipwright. Technically though they only hold 2 of the 20 because Cirdan gave his ring to Gandalf, who is not an elf, but rather Maiar.
What answers have you tried?
It appears the correct answer could be any of the following:
U = (1 * 17) + (20 * 8) = one hundred seventy seven
U = (1 * 17) + (20 * 16) = three hundred thirty seven
U = (1 * 17) + (21 * 8) = one hu ...[text shortened]... 16) = three hundred fifty three
Have you tried all of those?
Edit: oooh, I'm not the only nerd out there. Thousand pointed this out on page 2. Well, I guess I'm on a correspondence chess site so not too surprising really.

from iamatiger's view, it seems that U in the riddle amounts to either zero or undefined, both of which are, in a sense, a null result.
is there something to do with this polarity?

Nice thinking, except A <> 10, A= 20
each pawn can move 1 of two spaces = 16
+ each knight can move to two squares = 4
16 + 4 =20
However, some people have said that white can also resign in move 1, so maybe 21?
EDIT: Tidied up a bit. First go was rushed 😳
just admitting he lost, or refusing to move.
Originally posted by iamatigerA=20, 4 knight moves plus each pawn has two moves, remember?

C=1, duh.
D probably All of them.
