If that is really true, it would imply that our organic chemistry is very similar to this alien organic chemistry since octopi are able to digest and absorb our organic matter.

It also wouldn't surprise me, since octopi are astonishingly intelligent, almost beyond belief, with a nervous system that's unearthly.

They have the same genetic alphabet which is a strong hint that they are from the earth.Plus in the article the guy writes about how comparable the brains of octopi and Humans are.

Digesting organic food on the other hand is probably not a strong hint. Beings on Earth digest quite diverse food sources. If a being is organic itself it should be able to find organics they can use a s food.

one type of Octopus's DNA mapped..at least 10,000 more genes that humans..considered "weirdest on Earth"

That works for sugars. Proteins, not so much. Most vitamins, forget it.

It is silly to suggest octopus genes are alien since the fundamental DNA structure is identical to any other life on Earth.
My guess is that would never happen in some planet around another star unless there is something causing DNA from Alpha Centauri or other stars to be the same as Earth DNA.

"Proven" would also require a known alien bio sample and there is no such thing yet.

It's not silly at all if Earth life originated from another world. Many planets could have been seeded by life from an original source, which would explain the similarity of fundamental DNA structure.

Perhaps we need to redefine the word 'alien'. If our ancestors live 2000 Ly away, are they really alien?

What I think is really silly is for an engineer or scientist to assume they know what technology will be like 45,000 years from now.

yes, you are referring to Panspermia... Many astrophysicists are taking that idea very seriously. didn't follow the comment about 45,000 years from now...

@bunnyknight
Forget 45 THOUSAND years from now. We don't know what we will have in FORTY FIVE years much less thousands.

It refers to all those people claiming that interstellar travel via technology is absolutely, totally, completely 100% impossible.
There could be life 45,000 years or 450,000 years or 4 million years more advanced than ours.
